So today Summer went back to the vets to have a lameness check 11months on from her DDFT tear. Bit of background for those who dont know, think she was bought with a tendon tear as she went very lame after we bought her (straight away), vet passed off as abcess and with 2weeks box rest she was starting work again- despite nothing being drained she picked up ( but very light work, like once a week being ridden as i was far more interested in the boy I had just met and the yard was in a horrid place over a motorway junction !).

This went on for a while, then she was moved yards to a lovely place i could bike to and from with miles and miles..and more miles! of hacking, i started jumping her more and we competed unaff quite a lot.

But then she went lame, so more rest for couple of weeks- start over, then she went very very lame and was diagnosed ddft tear to distal medial margin. - she was in quite heavy work at this point and the tendon obv couldnt hold out any more.

so then she had an op which showed adhesions were too thick to reach tendon (suggesting a long term injury). now 11months on she has apparently made a 75% recovery, is 1/10 lame on the straight and 2/10 on a circle, marginly more so after flexions.
Vet says the workload she is in atm is fine for her as she seems to be coping very well, which is 5/6 days a week of an hour schooling mostly trot/canter and that includes 15mins jumping some days ! She shows no signs of pain around the tendon at all, just a little stiff on the adhesions.

If I compete more regularly at low level unaff jumping he reccomends bute just incase any inflammation occurs but she should be fine, I wont compete her very much anyway (once every two weeks and not many classes) and no hard ground work at all of course and nothing like hunting which is common sense really.

All done and discharged !
