I've gone for a fly mask with nose section, mine was not impressed with having cream on and I ended up with more on me!! A lot of people used to buy gold label sun cream.

At the moment, I'm using Barrier Sunburn Soother, it's easy to put on, gives factor 25 cover and can be put on existing sore skin. I have found that human suncream always ends up building up on their skin and in the end it gets irritated, but this hasn't had that effect and I've been using for some while now. I also use a nose net from Equilibrium if she's out in the field for the afternoon when the sun is at it's strongest. Have a facemask to cover her eyes as she has pink skin around them also, that blocks out pretty much all the sun, so no burn there!

Nivea factor 50. It's a thin non greasy oil type spray but it's quiet to spray and my mare who burns if she hears a nice weather forecast has been great with it the last few years. She hates creams with a passion but stands for the spray nicely. Makes less mess of the water trough too!

Sudocreme, it's thick and lasts all day with one application - no matter how many times they drink :D It's cheap too.

I'm using a Garnier kiddy one for my 2yo as its factor 50, long-lasting and super water-resistant so perfect for him as he lives out 24/7. Its also a fetching aqua blue/green colour so I can see how long it lasts and when he needs topping up - it does mean the neighbours are always wondering what's going on with his nose! Mine hated the texture of sudocrem but he lets me put this on him with minimal fuss.

I use Ambre Solaire 50+ sun stick, it comes in pritt stick form, it really stays on and doesn't slip away

Sudocrem is amazing - stays on all day with just one application, and doesn't slide off if they drink or rub on things. Has saved my old boy's pink nosey!

I haven't tried it yet as still using up the kids factor 50 spray, but you can get a product called P20 or P30 which for people you apply 15mins before going into the sun to hive it time to bind to the skin. You then don't need to reapply at all that day and it doesn't wash off. Only thing is I think it may be alcohol based, so may not be ok for sensitive skin (I have used it on my kids no problem!) but wondered if ok for horses?

Well I never knew sudocrem contained sun screen. You learn something every day.

It doesn't as far as I know, it's maybe just an effective barrier due to its thickness to sun/UV rays.

Looks on their website like Sudocrem do proper sunscreen mousses but doubt that consistency would be any good for horses noses!

I found that human suncream irritated my cobs nose - so this year I have bought him a new face mask with nose and it came with a free tube of animal suncream "Solar" something - can't remember the actual name. Very nice to apply and so far seems to be OK. Although, for the last few days I have kept him in during the day as it has been so hot.

It doesn't, but it's so thick that it stays puts and totally blocks out the sun, it's also water resistant so doesn't slide off when they drink.

My old boy has a terrible time with sunburn on his nose, and occasionally round his eyes, but an Equilibrium fly mask and sudocrem on his nose has totally sorted the problem.
