sun cream on pink muzzle?

first summer with my mare and wanted to know what is the best thing to put on her pink muzzle?

Having tried every expensive sunblock both horse and human over the years, the only product that I've found stays on, prevents and also heals on days when you get caught out, is good old fashioned Sudocrem.

I find any cream doesn't stay on long enough to be really effective any my boy hates having that bit of his nose touched. The nose nets work really well, they are only about £10 + an old cheap leather headcollar

I use an Equilibrium nose net on a fieldsafe headcollar, plus Nivea factor 50 for babies on the parts it doesn't cover. No sunburn at all last summer, and if we actually get to see the sun again this year, I'm confident that she's well protected!!

I use Tesco factor 50 for children on my horse. Its a greenish colour when you put it on so you can see where you have covered and it works well

I was sure I was told not to put sun cream on as it is oil based and actually makes it worse?

Not sure, I could have totally made that up!

I use a fly mask with attached nose net, and Naf sunblock on the sides of her nose the Naf stuff is fantastic, very thick, better than Sudocrem IMO, it stays on for a good couple of days!

Ditto. Get yourself a full-face fly mask / nose protector for the hot days too, if your horse will keep one on.

This. However if you have a trashed fly sheet, cut it to size to cover his nose and attach to the noseband of an old headcollar. Then you won't need any creams at all and you won't get caught out either.

Sudocrem is the best sun barrier cream in the world. Used it for my coloured mare who used to get horrific sunburn. Worked an absolute treat and cleared it right up and it never came back.

My mare hates nose nets so I use sudocrem. It stays on, she can rub other sun creams off. Sudocrem is the only thing I've found that works for me.

Current and previous cobs both have lovely pink noses

Previous cob, either the kids sun block, or horsey sun block usually did the trick.

Current cob, whole muzzle is pink and he hates having cream on his nose! Anything I try gets wiped off either on the floor or on his leg - sudocrem kind of stays put, but I end up with it smeared all over his foreleg too!

Was told by vet that sudocrem works well as it has the zinc oxide that provides the actual blocking, so either sun 'block' or sudocrem, not sun 'cream'. I find though that unless I clean it off really well every day, the sudocrem actually makes the skin sore after a couple of days...

I opt for a full fly mask - Shires seems to fit well, completely cover the muzzle, and stays clear of the eyes. And doesn't cost a fortune! Any bits that aren't covered, I slather on sun block and hope that it either stays on, or if he keeps his head down eating, the grass will cover his poor little chin

thanks everyone! im going to go with the sudocrem then, especially seeing as i already have two tubs of it at the yard!
i will get a fly mask/nose net too, it will be interesting to see if she keeps it on! i have found her head collar sitting in the middle of her field twice now, still done up! not sure how she does it!

I found a full face fly mask with nose section far more effective than sun cream. Sun cream gets dunked in water, rubbed etc.

Sudocream complete sun block, vet recommended it, no sunburn at all.

Nivea highest factor you can find. I think I have 50. It comes in a blue bottle with yellow lid. It's a very quiet low action spray and my neurotic pink pony lets me spray eyes ears and muzzle so it must be very pony friendly!

Another one for a nose net and sudocream as a back up, works for us. Have tried the high factor kids sun screen in the past, it worked ok but much prefer the nose net as I know for sure they're protected.

And I adjust my net to the side rather than front as that's where my boy is pinkest.
