Over the weekend my pony has developed an awful rash all over his nose and lips, unfortunately, I was away so couldnt deal with it until this morning, i cant believe how quickly its developed, he was fine when I left on Friday lunchtime, my boyfriend put sudacrem on it in my absence and brought him in from the field......I have photo's but dont know how to upload them.....can anyone advise on treatment or tell me the difference between the two, i cant find any buttercups in the field, it was my farrier that suggested it could be this, my other two ponies are fine. Thank you.

Really you are talking one and the same thing. Buttercups cause hyper sensitivity and then the sun/wind causes the burn.

We have 5 horses and all but one has a vulnerable white nose!! We have learned to slap on babies suncream factor 50 at the first sign of either buttercups or sun.

Probably sunburn, mine gets it all the time when it's hot. I put sun cream on but he still gets it. He had little blisters once, I put Sudocrem on and it soon clears up. No buttercups in our field so it's definitely not them.

My boy got a really badly burnt nose and lips and white socks from eating giant cow parsley. It apparently has sap in it that severely burns them if they have white noses or socks. I couldn't get anywhere near to putting cream on his nose , but after 3 weeks the nose and lips have recovered ,he has been on bute, and now is only only half each day. His legs are improving and we have been bathing them and hibiscrubbing then putting sudacream on.
I hope that this is not what your horse has as it is really nasty. He was so lame when the burns came out on his socks originally that he could hardly walk. Thankfully he is now much better but it will probably be another two weeks at least until he can be brought slowly back into work. That will be about 6 weeks in total.

I have just had the same happen to mine pink nose I have slapped on Sudocrem at least once a day seems to be getting smoother poor boy

If it is unusual for this horse (although we did have lots of sun) he may have eaten something else which is causing photosensitivity, like st John's wort? IIrc they can also become photosensitive if they are having liver problems which is worth bearing in mind.

My new horse had loads of scabs and really pink nose when I first got her. Her nose is so sore :( I have been putting sudo cream on it each day and its lots better now.

sounds like he has an overloaded liver. i would get some bloods run to check his liver function, then do a detox with something called releve or resorb .. think its a global herb one. i would then check round your field/hedges to find the cause.
