Just a general sunday evening wondering really! I am just wondering what the average is.

How old is your horse and how many times has it put someone in hospital, or seriously injured them (e.g. unable to work for a few days)?

I have 2, one is 12 years and I count 8 hospitalisations or serious injuries; the other is about 30 and has a grand total of none....

Gory stories welcome :-)

Um, none. Have 5. One aged 13 have owned 10 years. One aged 17 owned for 8 years. The others are 8, 6, and 2 and I've owned them all their lives as I bred them. Have 2 client horses and so far so good!

Three times, twice with me once with someone else.

One of the times involved me having 5 days in hosp with memory loss and moved a vertebrae in my back. Not Rosies fault at all, I just took a tumble out the side door and landed funny.

Then with someone else she reared up and broke their nose. Ooops.

I've had her 7 years.

Once :( Dudley's 22 years old and it happened befor i got him , he was tyed up in the yard and young girl keeped runing behind him draging stuff she got kicked in the head  she was ok and never ran behind a horse again .
My old pony put me in Hospital by dumping me on to a jump (jump cup went in my leg) lots of stitches and i now have a lovely jump cup shaped scar .

Mine has only put me in hospital once and I have had him 17 years (or maybe about 13 at the time). It wasn't his fault though, he slipped on the road and I ended up breaking my collarbone so not really a hospital stay.

None of the other horses we've had over the years have put any of us in hospital (or anyone else) either. One of them I have owned 18 years and he has always been a bit neurotic and everything had to be done at 100mph so it's quite a surprise I nevre got injured! :)

Mine is 11, owned 7 years and i can count 4 times so far. 3 times with my sister (1-he charged out of field shelter and bowed her over, knocking her out. They kept her in overnight. 2-he took off in school and she came off landing on the rail and broke her collarbone. 3-he rotated when jumping and broke 2 of her ribs. 4-just 2 weeks ago he bronco-ed with me and i cracked a vertebrae)

He bolted after a jump and I came off at the corner - well I kinda bailed so not really his fault - one broken rib and one cracked rib :(

One, but it was 50:50 who's fault it was, he did a straight forward duck out of the fence while my friend was jumping she came out the side door somehow broke both bones in her ankle, compound (bones poking out of the skin for the less technical among us!). In hospital for weeks, crutches for months (off work for months as she had to drive to work) 18 months on it's still gives her pain ! She doesn't really blame my boy tho
I feel really bad but no really anyones fault!!
Previous to that the worst a horse of mine had done was deglove the finger of a groom on the yard we were at (again slightly his fault for wrapping the leadrope round his hand!)

Ummmm a few over the years, most notable was being dumped on my head after my young horse was chased by a pack out uncontrolled collies who tried to round him up.

Err, I think you'll find that brown Duncan horse broke our other sisters ankle when she unwisely thought she ride him bareback like the good old days.....

And mum's first horse put me in a coma aged 3! :D

Once. But it was totaly my fault. It was late in the everning and he wouldn't come up the croft to go up the hill over night, so I went to get him. I decided to ride back up the croft and the horses on the next croft had a silly moment, running and kicking their heals...my horse joined in XD haha

My mare is seven and has landed me in A&E after bashing my head with hers and giving me concusion - it was only a few days after we got her, she's learnt since then. Otherwise she never has hurt anyone, In the 4 years I've had her I've come off her once :-)

Only one, so far, touch wood, lick a black cat or whatever. My steady eddy wide as he was tall cob was out on loan to an RDA group, and being used for the odd able bodied hack, when he decided to snatch a mouthful of grass .............while cantering across a field, led to a broken shoulder.

One of my old ponies decked me and kicked me chipping a bone in my knee. I have had a few other injuries worthy of medical attention - ie I have landed on my head a few times - but because nothing had been broken I don't bother wasting hospitals time.

I did get what felt like, to poke prod and feel, a cracked rib last year after being smashed against a wall whilst clipping. No point in getting that seen to at hosp as what can they really do about ribs? And I don't do pill popping so going in for drugs is a totaly pointless exercise for me.

I was talking about CURRENT horses! :D

Anyway, the ankle injury was her own stupid fault! :)

In nineteen years, not one single time. I've only ever come off him twice: first time stirrupless with no reins when he shied on the bridlepath and second time when he tripped. Both times he stopped and waited for me. He wouldn't hurt a fly, intentionally or otherwise despite being a fizzy, forward going, yet safe as houses type. One in a million pony.

OMG - going to give my girly a big hug in the morning for us having a total of 0 hospitalisations in 8 years, didn't realise how often people get hurt!

The WB once(just X-ray and torn SI)

My 21 trolls once, she had a freak out and dumped my sister and jumped over her accidentally kicked her in the head, nice hoof shaped dent in the helmet.

Idiot pony one when he was eight, he spooked and spun and my brother came off and broke his humerus.

Old pony once, broke dads hand by kicking him. Aim for his head but dad put his hand up.

Had little lad for 5years, he's 21, he put my friend off work for two weeks. He stumbled over his own feet and used her foot to get himself right again. She was in a moon boot for about 6 weeks. Oops :(

My horse is 8 and she has never hospitalised me or anyone else that I know of! Have probably jinxed it now though....
Most recent horse related injury was in February this year when I climbed a frosty metal gate, slipped off akwardly and cracked a bone in my foot as landed on frozen rutted mud. Wasn't even related to my horses I was climbing in to give the abandoned horses on the field next to mine their hay!
