After all our hard work in trying to get a headcollar on the wild one, the moving day is looming SUNDAY!! My husbands b'day too!

He now leads a bit, we can pick feet up, but all done in the field with his other friends so can be a bit hit and miss!

He is having Sedalin and his friend will be lead onto the trailer first and he will hopefully follow  Then he goes to new home with 2 mares...

To say I am scared is an understatement!!

Good luck, I'm sure it will all go fine. :)

Stupid Question oh wise Rhino... but what do 2 yr olds normally do when you move them and put them in a strange field?? Prance around unsettled for a few hours or run flat out like bullocks ( I know all about bullocks lol)... I know they will all act differently, I just don't know what to expect!! Scared!! Have neurotically put electric tape up around the fields incase he gets any ideas!!

Depends on their temperament really, and what their companions/horses in next door fields tend to do. Anything I've had has mostly just wanted to eat  If you are particularly worried about one, it can be helpful to lead them around the boundary of the field before you let them go, so at least they've seen where the fences are.

He's never been on his own and he's only just 2.. so thinking we need to get a friend with him fairly quick.... We have the choice of a 16.2 tb mare who is 23, nice person but will prance with him...or 24 yr old welsh mare who is the boss and will tell him off!.....

The field he will stay in is across the lane but up a steep slope so we can't unbox him there, we may unbox him in the little paddock....... 1/3 acre... then attempt to lead him to over paddock after he's settled, this will mean he has to go across a little stream tho , so may need another horse to show him to walk across it...... It's all so stressful, as I have never had one so young before so really don't know how he will react!

Some Equine specalists have said give him 5ml of Sedalin, Have only ever used Domorsedan in the past so don't even know how horses react to sedalin. arghhhhh ever so slightly panicky!!

Sedalin is usually pretty safe, it doesn't always do much but can just take the edge off. The most important thing will be your attitude though, yes it's a bit scary but it's obvious how much the little guy has grown to trust you so you will need to put on your big brave pants and act confident, even if you are quaking inside ;) :) Talking to them is normally my trick

Tis ok.... Husband doesn't do stressy and he is the one the Coblet has learnt to trust! So no fear there :-) I always think worst case scenerio!! I just imagine him screaming around the field trying to leap over 5 bar gates to find his herd he has left lol... i suppose his new friends will be just as good tho! A horse is a horse innit!?
He will lead 5-6 paces with OH then stops, he doesn't really get walking yet! If a noise or something spooks him he will turn and flee leadrope and all, but this is rare now, husband can then walk straight up to him, so the trust is there.,.. we are just going to suck it and see!! Our main problem is we have no neighbouring fields to any of the paddocks, so may just have to lob new horse in with him if he is too anxious .... the mares have had strangers in with them before and were fine, my boy is very placid with other horses so fingers crossed.... I will be going greyer!
