sunlight and eyesight

Can sunlight make a difference to the way some horses see things? I rode out this morning in the bright sun and my horse was quite spooky with things that he would normally ignore. Just wondered whether anyone else finds this. He normally walks past bags in the hedge but today there was one in the shade that he didn't want to walk past and I wondered whether his eyes hadn't adjusted from being out in the sun.

Possible... its probably more to do with more shadows being about generally, making them look at the "scary horse eating monsters" more!
