Some recent developments in horse genetics research thought fellow nerds on here might find interesting. 😊 Sorry...Been interested in horse genetics for ages and still think it's indescribably cool 😂

So-called sunshine dilution, another allele at the same gene as pearl and cream: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/age.12790
Another allele at the same gene as SW1 and 3, dubbed SW5: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/age.12762

Though candidate gene approaches have come under fire a bit recently and I was at first cynical as I saw about the discoveries on a Quarter Horse website it credited Etalon Diagnostics with the discoveries and Stalin don't have a fabulous track record for reliability. https://www.quarterhorsenews.com/2019/07/new-equine-color-genes-discovered/

I am Facebook friends with the lady who owns Sunshine. She got a right pasting when she announced it, so I'm glad its now been made official!
Wow, how horrible for her. Can't the horse world be bitchy sometimes? Still, I'm glad this is official now too just because it's cool lol. This has been a good year for horsey colour stuff - first with mushroom test, now this. And Etalon Diagnostics links aside, Animal Genetics is a really good journal.

I think it just seemed really unbelievable to a lot of people, I was slightly sceptical to be honest. But she was right and I'm glad for her. Hes entire as well so has foals on the ground this year, or coming anyway.

Thanks for the pics. I've tried so hard to understand genetics but am beyond stupid 🙈🙈
I breed Parrotlets and Lovebirds so I have some understanding of the very basics but that's it x
