Back in summer I brought myself a spoilt pony intending to improve her. She used to be really strong and bolt up to every jump she saw. since the day I brought her she improved so much untill a few months ago something went wrong in her brain and since then shedls just turned horrible , I cant hack and iv3 done nothing but walk her and try doing transitions and schooling for the last few mounths but nothing works with her. Ive even thought about selling her something I promised myself id never do so any ideas that could help are welcomed

i would get the vet out to give her the once over to make sure she hasn't got medical issues before finding a good instructor to help you

Interestingly I was going to post a similar "help" relating to super strong hard mouthed pony!

I have two "sharers" who are both good riders and equally (if not better!) with their hands than me considering my pony has a very hard mouth and is always fresh as a daisy, no matter how much he is ridden, sometimes 2/3 times a day on occasion.

I went for a hack a few weeks ago and he was sooo strong, bordering on dangerous, nearly fell over twice! - just no brakes at all with waterford gag on second ring! which normally he is fine in.

Closer inspection revealed bruising to his mouth which mortified me that he must have been in pain.

We go between worrying about his mouth to actually needing to stop! - we have tried english hackamore, even in the school he is pretty uncontrollable with this, today I got a german hackamore and found it better in walk and trot but forget it for canter and jumping! Just too terrified I may break his nose from pulling.

I am close to selling him (had him several years and he has been fast strong but manageable) but now seems to have lost he plot and be going mental! All the usual things checked, dentist coming next week but not long since had them done.

Anyway to OP, I am going to try 24 turn out as my boy is in at night and seems to have ooooodles of energy currently, stick to hackamore for slow hacks and just try the waterford gag which is the ONLY bit I have any control of any kind for showjumping and XC. His old owner said changing bits regularly was the only way to keep him "stopping"!!!! It appears she was right.

I have also changed his feed back to one I trialled in the summer, Equilibirum Low Energy, nothing else and only a small amount of that!

Maybe that snow just sent them potty, I dont know, but I know a lot of horses that are simply full of it currently. I have also tried free schooling him in the lunge pen before riding and it makes not a jot of difference, it is like he is on duracell!!!

I have previously tried snaffle (back to basics), schooling, oodles of transitions, double bit, kimblewick, you name it.....he just runs through it unless it has a curb action....sadly I was disappointed with the german hackamore as thought it would be stronger in some way but actually ridden with it how you should, very light in the hand I may as well had a bit of cotton round his nose!

If you find the answer let me know!!!!!.................................
