Hi.

Has anyone had any experience with superior check ligament injuries?

My 16yr old had previously injured his check ligament in 2011 so he has always had a swelling below his knee.
4 weeks ago we were showjumping on the saturday and on the sunday he was lame, heat in his tendon and a swelling above the knee. :( Now he was more lame on the other fore with heat in the hoof. So i iced, hosed and bandaged him and we went to the vets on the friday.
By this point the heat in his tendon had reduced but still swollen above knee and heat in other hoof.
Vet thought he had an abscess and said to give him 3 weeks off and see how he got on, poulticing for a few days, no treatment from swelling above knee but said it could be scanned if he was still lame after this.
Nothing came out of his hoof and i boxed rested him. Heat left hoof and swelling was reduced.

Trotted him him after 3 weeks and he was still lame, thought it was more likely due to the fact he was missing his shoe, swelling had came down a bit above the knee , so i started to hand walk graze him.

Now he got shod 2 days ago and today his knee is very swollen and hot again, so there is clearly some damage to his superior ligament?

has anyone any experience with this? should he be box rested? taken back for a scan?

thanks :D
