Had the farrier yesterday and he said that my boy seems to be wearing down his hooves quicker than usual, probably due to having concrete yard, more hacking, etc, etc. anyway we are going to try hoof boots as don't think he would let anyone shoe him so I was wondering if there is any supplements/ feeds that I could give him to help? Thanks on advance :)

Biotin is popular. I've found a good quality Aloe Vera supplement has helped my horses feet to improve in condition.

Hopefully if grass starts to grow soon, it'll help his hoof growth also! :)

Is he sore or is it causing him any problems? If not I wouldn't worry. So long as you don't suddenly increase the work a lot his hooves should keep up. Barefoot hooves tend to be short and if he is getting enough work on roads etc. he may not need much if any trimming and will maintain himself.

hoove growth is related to a balanced diet, not to a hoove supplement.

Biotin is produced by the horse in more then sufficient amounts as long as the hindgut is healthy.
It is produced or better synthesised by the fermentation of the fiber from the "gut cultures".

If there is a problem with the hoove, the pointer is allmost a lack of Zinc, Copper, Mangan and also Vitamin A.

If you double check or compare a hoove supplement to a good balancer you will figure out that the hoove supplement is only a fraction of the balancer.

The biotin is only a illusion or a trap.

I think there are some hoof supplements that provide "exactly" what a horse needs for good general healthand what maybe lacking in the general diet and go along way to balancing the minerals - research Pro Hoof on ebay.

Balancers v supplements. Pro hoof etc. are classed as balancers I believe but it is confusing. A balancer is trying to balance the forage but can also be descried as a dietary supplement. :D
