Evening HHO a little feeding advice needed I think. I have been bouncing ideas round in my head recently, I have an older pony who has started getting minor bouts of colic when he is stressed (mainly by minor things which hasn't bothered him in the past such as hounds, his friend leaving the yard to be ridden etc.)
I was mulling over the idea of maybe a probiotic or brewers yeast and whether this would help?

He is an alright doer in terms of weight and currently only receives bailey no.14 lo-cal balancer (which he looks really well on) and may receive hifi in winter.
Any suggestions or own experiences welcome.
Thank you for replies in advance.
Warm sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream up for grabs :)

I'm a big fan of Protexin gut balancer which is a pro and pre biotic. It's a little more expensive than brewers yeast but it's worth every penny I my book.

Curragh Carron Oil (digestive aid) - Distributed by Battles so most feed places can get it although few seem to stock it. Was recommended by vets for one of mine after his first colic surgery 8 years ago and he's been on it ever since.
Not outrageously expensive either.

Evening everyone, thank you for all the replies.
Just a quick update . . . . . So I placed the horse in question on Protexin, he has been on it for the last month and the difference is really noticeable. No 'colicy' bouts when his friend leaves the yard only slight colic episodes have arisen when the hunt is in close proximately. However I can now control these episodes with oral pain relief rather than getting a vet for IV meds.
A happy and slightly less stressed owner :)
Thanks again HHO
