My gelding (10 ISHxWB) has an interesting brain, and I'm wondering if there might be a supplement that would be helpful to his ability to focus without the need for calming (maybe). Quick summary of what I've observed in the 4+ months I've had him:
He's currently in decent shape, clean PPE in September, all the back/teeth/saddle stuff has been well taken care of. He's on Pure Easy feed, 5-6 hours daily turnout, ample hay otherwise. Ridden 4-5 times per week, jumping/dressage/polework mainly as he's not always been great on hacks (that's a goal for us).
Any thoughts?
- Seems to have difficulty concentrating / gets bored easily
- Is always very alert to happenings around the yard
- Does not have a great work ethic and tends to be lazy/sluggish; working on getting him more responsive to the aids
- Is more focused in the indoor school where distractions are minimized; does better with lots of variety (can get a bit arena sour I think)
- Not the most respectful chap -- is a bit bolshy, which we are working on, but he definitely has his own agenda and I think part of this is anxiety-related
- Can get a bit fizzy on hacks
- Is a bully in the field so is now turned out alone; rather rude to horses in neighboring stalls
- Very physically sensitive / low tolerance for pain or discomfort (e.g. having back done, clipping, vet)
