I don't know much about feed supplements or additives for horses, but someone has suggested to me that I could try my mare on something to help with her 'spookiness'. She is a 12 yo arab mare who I am just about to bring back into work and she has no vices whatsoever, is an absolute angel to handle with excellent manners but her one and only fault is that she is very very spooky to ride, and on the ground. I have only really put it down to her being a typical, sensitive arab in the past and it hasnt caused a major problem for me, however our new YM who is going to help me out with her return to work has suggested that some kind of hormone supplement may help? I would like to try anything that would make riding her a bit more enjoyable. I dont know if it is relevant but she has had three foals in the past, and seems to be in season a LOT but I have never noticed any patterns in her 'spookiness'- she is just like it all the time! lol.

the magnesium supplements only work if the horse is lacking in the first place, and as with a lot of things, it could be along case of trial and error,

personally id work on de spooking more than anything, also a good thing for ground work whilst bringing the mare back into work.

I tried supplements on my cob (gelding) for competitions. The first time it seemed to work, but after that it made no difference whatsoever!

Does she have alfalfa at all in her diet? My sister found that her very spooky PBA Appaloosa mare was less spooky when she took alfalfa out of her diet. It apparently has phyto-oestrogens which obviously affect mares' hormones.
