Hi all

Just need some advice on which supplements would be good for my boy.

He's usually an angel but during the winter I haven't been able to hack him out as much, and hes pretty spooky and stressed if I take him out on his own.

Would something like Calm & Condition help?

Thanks

M

Calm & Condition is a complete feed by Allen & Page, not a supplement. Is he spooky because he is stabled more/fed more? You could try turning him out as much as possible and cutting his hard feed down and feeding him ad lib hay. Various people on here have used calmers - NAF Magic, Global Herbs Magcalm, Global Herbs Supercalm, Equine America's So Kalm, etc., etc.

I have half a tub of Global Herbs Magcalm up for grabs if anyone wants to try it - pm me!

it is called magic by naf. i have two friend that swear by it. i myself had a very highly strung tb pony and we had her on magnesuim it worked a treat. we could not get her in a ring let alone jump a course of fences she was so head strong all the time. magnesium levels drop in there stomachs when they do something that makes them stressed, therfore by topping it up every day and double dosing before a stress related thing when the level drops they have a bit in reserve so it levels them out. you cant overdose as it is natural. nupafeed is very good and the one i used was called spec calm. all ok to compete on. hope this helps i did quite a bit of research before using it. if you need something stronger than just magnesium buy the spec calmer as it has an added ingredient that begins with Tryp........ cant remember the name but it also works as a calmer.

Thanks so much for the recommendations guys - much appreciated!!

He's fine in the summer as I can ride most days and tend to hack a lot, but during the winter I can only hack out at weekends. Hes quite a good doer so I don't feed him much in the way of concentrates, he's fed twice a day and has a scoop of Hi-Fi Good Doer, half a scoop of bran and less than half a scoop of Baileys Senior mix per feed. He gets plenty of turnout and is out from 7am til 5pm every day.

He's fine in himself and is as good as gold when hes out with other horses, he just gets a little stressed when on his own and is constantly looking for tigers to spook at!!

You can feed normal magnesium tablets, you can buy them from any pharmacy, i get them from sainsburys! They are much cheaper than any of the supplements and work just as well.x
