My 16.2 TB X gelding is on a standard horse and pony mix and ad lib haylage currently which is supplied by the livery as part of his package, however he's currently lacking in condition through the winter so I'm looking for something that can be added to his current feed rather than changing it entirely as it works well for him. I've heard good things about Equerry Condition Mash and Alfa A, can either of those be added in on top of his current feed as a supplement or are they base feeds? I've also heard good things about In The Pink Powder and Omega Muscle.

Does anything exist to develop muscle/topline, help with weight gain, hoof health and overall condition all in one or am I being a bit too optimistic?

I'm not very experienced with feed as he's my first horse that I've owned myself and has eaten what the livery supplies to most of the other horses on the yard since I got him in the summer, they said I can add supplements and extra's if I want to but obviously I have to pay for them myself, hence my reluctance to completely change his feed as I'm not sure if that's an option with my livery without it costing me a bomb in feed every month, plus like I said it works well for him usually, just obviously not enough during the winter and this is the first winter I've had him.

Great for condition without too much cost is to add a cup full of calf milk powder to the feed. Or fibre high in oil - oil is so calorie dense and great for condition. Don’t be afraid to call your feed supplier helpline - I’ve done so from time to time talked through with a nutritionist. Spillers are helpful

I would add some micronised linseed and In the Pink powder to start - it will add a bit of non-heating condition and it generally a good option for most horses. How many feeds is he getting? It might be worth splitting into 3 smaller feeds.

Thank you I'll give that a go, and he's having two feeds at the moment morning and evening and ad lib hay but I'll speak to the livery about perhaps increasing the amount of feeds, they have already increased the amount of his two feeds but it hasn't made a lot of difference.

I’d be wary about adding pink powder as that’s an all round vit and min supplement so you might be overdoing the vits and mins if they are already in his pony nuts ect. Pink mash would be a good alternative that provides hind gut support, some extra moisture (it’s a soaked feed) and weight gain but without causing a nutritional imbalance. I would add micronised linseed (very cheap) and global herbs muscle up (fed in small quantities so lasts long time). Hope that helps. As for feet add a biotin supplement. Best one would be fathers formula but I’m sure there’s some alright cheaper knock off versions xxx
