Hi all,

I have a joint supplement for my boy but I'm struggling getting him to ear it consistently,
I've had a different supplement and again not reliably eating it.
He's quite a fussy boy and can generally take or leave his food even with nothing added evenin winter when grazing is sparse.
Has anyone just syringed supplements instead?
Thinking of mixing with yogurt and maybe apple juice or mint flavour 🤔

Not supplements, but danilon- I mixed it with baby food (obviously the fruit/veg kind, not chicken etc!). It went down fine while the old boy was on pen rest, but once he was on unrestricted turnout I was unable to catch him if he thought there was any chance I might have a syringe nearby!
Have you tried mixing molasses/syrup with the supplement in his feed?

I chose a joint supp with a low dosage volume for this reason. Getting her to eat her powder balancer and the joint supp was a pain in the bum but increasing both gradually and adding finely chopped carrot so it was harder to pick out the carrot and leave the rest of the feed has worked for us. I've known people to grate carrots or apples or both and add to the feed with success also. Borrowing a handful of my friends Thunderbrooks healthy herbal muesli worked in a pinch when she really wasn't hungry too, she says it's the best thing ever but she can't have it regularly as it costs a bloody fortune 😂

Syringing would be a last resort for me tbh. Another friend got her boy to take a wormer in a syringe using one filled with molasses for a week beforehand but it was still a huge sticky hassle. In your case I think it would be easier to just keep adding things to the bucket until you find what makes it worth it for him.

Thanks both.

Trouble is he doesn't reliably eat hard feed without anything added. I've tried various feeds over 7years and he's the same if he fancies it he'll eat it if not he'll leave it.

Even in deep winter he'll take it or leave it sadly.

Jam sandwich? Although it sounds like he might be just as fussy with treats!
Honestly he's so fussy, someday he'll eat apples/polo's etc others not a chance.
Would mind but he's a native not a blood horse 🤣🙈

I'll probably end up not bothering with giving supplements but wanted to try and support his joints etc
