Which supplement would you use for a horse with clicky joints/ligaments. They are not stiff when riding or standing in for long periods of time, they just click often when they move.

Many thanks.

A joint supplement can be useful although clicky joints is not necessarily a bad thing,. It is perfectly normal. the sound is carbon dioxide bubbles popping out of the joint. It can sometimes mean the joint isn't as well lubricated as possible which may lead to arthritis but there is no link so I wouldn't panic yet. Having said that a joint supplement will help. Which one you choose is entirely dependent on your budget. Any supplement with chondritin in will cost a lot more as this compund is very expensive. It is vital however that you feed a joint supplement at high levels to be effective. It is far more beneficial to feed one joint compound (glucosamine) at a high level than all three (glucosamine, MSM, Chondritin) at a reduced level. Generally a horse or pony between 300-500kg should be on at least 10g glucosamine daily. Given your circumstances I would try feeding just a glucosamine or Glucosamine and MSM combined to start with at high levels as this will keep the cost down for you. Theres loads of info about how to choose the best product, why to feed it etc on www.riaflex-equine.co.uk. Do your research thoroughly and you'll be fine. The product that doses at the highest daily dose rate is the best product to use regardless of price or brand.
