Can anyone reccomend anything?

My boy had a big lump of scanky build up removed from his willy and sheath cleaned by the vet soon after I got him.... he is much more comfortable now but he still seems to be itchy and dirty down there... he rubs his "bits" on his back legs when he rolls, which I'm sure is not helping his recovery from sacroilliac strain... (and leaves stinky black smegma on his back legs, which is nigh on impossible to get off!)

He let me give him a w1lly wash a couple of weeks ago (a major breakthrough considering he tried to kill the vet for even looking down there about 6 weeks ago!)... but I dont want to clean it too much as I understand this can upset the natural bacteria balance etc, so I wondered if there was anything I could feed him to help urinary tract, which might help keep his bits cleaner and healthier!?

Any ideas?

Or any sheath cleaning wonder products that I can use little and often without causing problems?

(And this is a horse that passed a 5 stage vetting with flying colours just over 2 months ago! I dispair!)

May I suggest you just use some warm water and your hand to rinse and gently rub the sheath/willy - this is what I do to get any manky bits out of Chancer's sheath which gets filled with mud where he rubs his belly and willy when itchy from sweet itch.

Chancer actually enjoys it and the warm water is normally enough to keep him clean.

The other thing I do is when they are hot and having a hose off is to put the end of the hose up the sheath - again mine two really enjoy it but be careful in case your one does not.

I will use the NAF sheath cleaner maybe once or twice a year if they are really grubby - normally in April as a "spring clean".

Healthy wee - dandelions.

When hes got it hanging out- excuse the phrase! I squirt mine with johnsons baby oil - not too much!. Then when they put it back in it softens all the muck and cleans itself!

For healthy wee try nettles. Cut and allow to wilt for a short while and then they will gobble them up.
