Now I do have a rather vivid imagination but im sure that some one has been sticking a little something extra in my horses feed especially before shows,

Some of you may think ahh its just show nerves well I would agree with this but my horse has been to hundreds of shows so dont take that as a reason for her nuttyness........ Maybe its me??? well Im the first to always blame myself when something goes wrong but on this one I also have dis regard this reason as it was a local show that I love going to and not a lot of people there. She got so wound up I had to withdraw from my class as she was becoming dangerous.

Other scenarios that lead me to believe the "spiking" of my horse is that she was so wound up that I was unable to tie her up on our yard (when nobody was about) as she would just freak out and snap ropes and headcollars.

she has plenty of turnout so cant be that she has energy that she needs to burn off,

and weirdly since some people have left yard she has gone back to her dobbin old self. Well we will see I have a show this weekend.

So what do you think guys???

Personally I think you're deluded however if you firmly believe that your horse will be quieter now these people have left the yard then I'm sure she will be.

Either she was and she'll be fine now they're gone.

Or she wasn't and she'll be fine because you think she will now they're gone.

No point dwelling on something you'll never know :)

If it was to do with them, could be any number of things to do with their horses interactions etc, not necessarily spiked food.

Also lots of out of the norm from behaviour of horses (very much so mares) recently with the funny weather

I think heating feed/supplements (and non-heating) are too expensive to be adding to other horses feeds just out of spite. Funny, most yards I've been at the problem has been people taking my feed, not adding to it!

I'd a friend who's pony suddenly started going berserk on her, she discovered after a bit of detective work that another livery was giving her pony a half scoop of oats when she was feeding her own pony so my friend's pony wouldn't "feel left out".

A few years ago I was at a yard and saw some kids behaving furtively, I followed them and found they were sneaking into the feed room and filling their pockets with oats or pony nuts then feeding them to the ponies. I gave them a right telling off for it.

So, yes, it is possible that someone may have been giving your horse something.

I was on one yard and bringing my horse back into work from an injury. She was going so well. I was riding her bareback as she was moving better without saddle.
I got on her this day, I barely sat down and she took off across yard, giving little bucks, on the concrete and me barely staying on. Went right round stable block and I eventually came off. She did the same when I got back on her but managed to steer into the arena and she went flying round. She did eventually slow.

Later on, I was told, oh yeah, xxx gave your horse handfuls of sugar cubes for a laugh. Yeah. some laugh!!! Girl was gone from the yard by the time I left. Just as well!! (I knew the girl fed loads of sugar cubes to her own horse).

At the point I fell off was where the pony could have headed down the road, thankfully she stopped beside me.

People can do strange things I've heard of a child's pony started getting really fizzy and it turned out a women was putting a scoop of oats over the door each morning. Ap it was cause she wanted said pony and thought if child got scared thy would sell.

I have also witnessed when I was younger a girl had a really fab SJ she jumped wembley, hickstead etc with many wins there. One year she qualified for two of the big ones and she was finding her horses door undone, things going missing. It then started that forks were being buried under the horses bed. She went mental and YO said with no proof she couldn't do anything, luckily horse was not hurt but as far as I can remember there were 3 occasions that a yard fork was found in her bed. She moved shortly after

I'd say it's quite possible. I fell out with someone who knew my pony easily gets laminitis, suddenly my pony had pretty strong pulses in her legs and hot feet but not every morning despite the fact that she had been in all night on soaked hay as usual with no changes in feed/grazing/hay.
The only person who would have even owned high sugar feed was that person and I asked everyone else on the yard if they had given her any treats and nope nobody had (probably due to the big sign saying please do not feed this pony!)
Given some of the other things she did (nails on the floor etc) it didn't suprise me but her having a pony with very severe laminitis that should have been put down years ago you would think that would be the last thing she would do .. But you can't be suprised at what a psycopath is capable of!
Obviously nobody believed me at the time but I moved to a more secure yard about a mile away. She's now our for a good 2/3 hours longer on a 5 acre field rather than half an acre, in frost etc, not having her hay soaked and guess what? No pulses or footy days yet! So pretty much confirmed it for me so yep I would say that's possible, it's scary what people will do!

I remember being at a yard where one of the groom was feed the stallions extra scoops of heating food because they thought it was funny. So it possible, heating food that is sugary and starchy and full of grain can be fairly cheap. I do though think many horses pick up on our show nerves.

Thank you for all your replys,
I definatly think that said person/family (cant prove who it is) have been adding most probably oats to my mares feed as they were the only ones feeding oats,

I did go to show and guess what she was an angel and even won our classes (oh yeah and beat said family)
so im guessing it is definatly a case of a big green eyed monster. And quite possibly someone thinking it would be funny to hype her up - she is a tb so really dont need it.

I am soo annoyed as my mare was so loopy before that she could have either caused me or herself an injury just by some thaughtless people.

Im just glad I didnt give in and stop riding her, it has taken me a long time to build my confidence back up after having a baby so was enjoying going out and competing untill this started happening, so hopefully I have proved to them their spitefullness never paid off.

We had this happen to one of our horses at our yard. Someone was feeding him handfulls of wheat. They used to hit him with buckets and whips but was never caught doing it by owner only other liveries seen. Horse was a right mess couldnth hack out without throwing rider. The person who we thought it was took over saying know one could go down before nine and he wasn't even the yo. When he left horse wasn't rode for a year eventually I decided to ride him and he was spot on no bother. Surprising is it.
