We’re putting in an arena this spring - 45 x 25, for personal use so will be used for a maximum of six horses a day - combination of flat work and jumping. Jumping won’t be over big jumps but more things like grids and technical exercises. Any recommendations of companies to look at and any to avoid please? We’d be looking at pre-mixed sand and fibre and we’re in the northeast.

I caveat this with it being 15 years ago, and I don't know if personnel/ownership has changed since.

I have a 40x20 Flexiride surface, supplied by Equestrian Direct.

Everything they promised about the product itself was spot on (i.e. it doesn't freeze, doesn't blow etc). However, my experience was they couldn't do enough to be accommodating before they had my money, then once I'd paid their attitude completely changed.

I don't have the best access, my drive is quite narrow and there is one particular bend in it that can be tight for a large vehicle. However, 8 wheeler concrete lorries have been down in the past and the bin men weekly etc. I was totally upfront about this before I made my order and they said not to worry and that their standard delivery vehicle wouldn't reach me but that they could deliver Flexiride in an alternative vehicle. Unfortunately, and this was a big life lesson learned for me, this was all verbal agreement over the phone and I didn't have it by e-mail/in writing. Nearer the delivery date they completely reneged on delivering in a smaller vehicle, said apparently this would never have been promised and basically there was nothing they could do and if I didn't accept the order I would lose my money. I ended up having to have the surface tipped at a friend's yard a short drive away and then arranging for it to be re-loaded into a different truck and re-tipped at mine. At my own expense and hassle.

I wouldn't use them again if you paid me, I'm afraid.
