Hi. Can anyone give me some advice. My 7yr old whippet had leg surgery at leahurst animal hospital. She was discharged with no antibiotics and infection discovered next day. I ve had 18months of constant visits to my local vet, antibiotics etc.. I ve contacted vcms but it's ended up an empasse. I owe £ 2.500 and struggling to pay. Insurance wouldn't cover it all.

I am unsure what advice you would like. I don't think Leahurst will have done anything wrong by not giving antibiotics, vets are being told to cut down on them now and generally, as from this year, only give them if there is an infection rather than as a preventative.

I guess that if you can't afford ongoing treatment then you could try the PDSA? Could family help? Many vets will allow a payment plan, also waiting for the insurance to pay out before you have to pay.

Alternatively, if there is no other way of paying then PTS would have to be explored?

I also am not sure what advice can help, infection started, was found and medication given. As the owner you would have given th ok for antibiotics for your dog so they will need paying for.
Whilst I feel for you as many on here will many have had vets bills, if you choose to treat you also choose and agree to pay the bill.
