Someone I no brought their donkey to the yard yesterday as they wanted to use the paddock next to the house as they had noticed the donkey was starting to bag-up, didn't look pregnant at all and she is a very well feed donkey anyhow !!!! so assumed the donkey will foal in a few weeks time.... and at
5 a.m this morning the baby donkey a colt was born. All is well with mum and baby donkey (no name yet) is doing great.

How cute is that!

Do get the vet out to geld ASAP as donkeys can be done in the first few days and then often you are stuck until they are a couple of years old as the testicles withdraw soon after birth.

Yes, the guy that own's them got the last colt gelded at 10 days old,(see my post a few months ago) http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=382545
as that is the perfect window, other wise you have to wait untill they are about two years old and the testicles have droped, the daddy is now due to be gelded in Oct as the ideal time was missed due to only one testicle dropping.

I WANT IT:D:D:D He is tooooo cute. And that is interesting about their testicles (!!!) never knew that!

The recovery time when gelding early is so much quicker and kinder to the little one as they get great comfort from nursing from the mum and a lot less blood. I also never knew... and when talking to the vet and seeing the post op made get sence :)
