I'm thinking of going to the Ranmore Common meet next weekend as its only down the road. I haven't hunted with SU before, but have heard mixed reviews on this meet. Can anyone tell me what its like? I know its non jumping but not bothered about that.

Thanks

We'll be going to this... I am somewhere between :D and  about it! My first hunt with the new pony - hope he is well behaved and polite (he has done a couple of seasons with his previous owner in Sussex, apparently)

This sat at Ranmore Common I think for 11am but need to double check time.
A livery at my yard said no jumping so normally 10-12 horses max turn up and yet they still charge £75 : (

Maybe, if you had a word with the Hunt Staff, they might agree to work without pay for a couple of days so that you could have the day cheaper.

Perhaps if they didn't feed the hounds and left the shoes off the horses, you could have it for nothing. It's worth asking...

Ranmore is often a meet with sabs which is why SU don't post the date or locations publically of any of their meets!

Ranmore can be stony and hard going, its very wet out there,at the moment. If your pony is at all not sure footed or you don't have full contol then I wouldn't go.

Who went? We had some visitors who parked up at our yard and hacked down. As a livery ON Ranmore I think the impression of the ground was not quite fair. I feel we are very lucky being on sand in that we can hack pretty much all year. Yes sometimes you need to take care but thats the same everywhere. The worst it ever was was when a cycling off road club had a race through the woods and completely wrecked all the routes.

The nearest I got to hunting was watching my old mare light up like a Christmas tree in her box when the hunt came past..!

I did...but being based on Ranmore anyway, it's what we're used to. There was a fair bit of brush bashing and a bit of speedy downhillness, but I didn't see anyone get unstuck.

And yes, there were antis, but they were the silent type, and also plenty of policemen.
