On Thursday I managed to part company with my horse resulting in a broken wrist (ooww). There is an evil rumour that he was trying to throw me in the large rubbish bin we were passing as a comment on my riding.
As it is my right wrist and I am right handed, any tips for one handed living gratefully received, also how long can I expect to be out of action.
Rose wine and ice cream on offer

I broke my left wrist a couple of years ago, the first pot was an old fashioned plaster of paris one, stood out in the rain while the horses were shod and then rode out to the horsemans carol service in the rain (out for three hours). By the end of the day the pot had become sufficiently squishy to hold the reins properly  I would not actually advise doing that as my wrist is still sore and I often have to wear a splint on it (mind you it didn't help that I pulled a tendon in the same wrist later that year, hanging on to a spooking horse). I would actually suggest that you do try and take it easy for a few weeks, and remember that you are probably not insured to drive while you have the pot on. Other than that it's amazing what you can manage to do one handed :)

I have the old fashioned plaster of Paris type and can only just touch my thumb and index finger, so holding anything is difficult. Driving is out but not being able to do up my own bra is driving me nuts

Bummer!, Thats six weeks! I was back riding after 2 but got my ass completely chewed off by doctor . Said that if I fell off again it would make cornflakes out of my wrist:o:o:o. Worst thing was (cos I am ancient) I couldnt write out cheques (remember them?).I had to submit a new signature to the bank ,writing with my left hand!:eek:Fortunately a friend loaned me an automatic car so I could still drive.I was lucky??? in that because of the way I broke it ,I had to have a support and not a cast. I learnt to unbandage that so I could have a bath ,pretty quick!:o:o PS, as you can guess,I am not a very patient patient!

Being fairly ancient myself I will be giving the old bones a chance to heal, but was very grateful that credit cards require a pin and not a signature

Keep pratiscing with the bra and your left hand will be able to do it up, at first it is prop easier to do it up at the front then move it around, then slide the straps over your arms (or poss just left arm) I broke my right collar bone at the end of march and had it operated on in the middle of August, my left arm has now got a lot more used to working. Rest as they say etc and could take some joint supps for quicker healing? At least you can hit pepople with your cast if they walk into your sore arm, ;) I couldn't!!

I broke my arm and wrist 2 yrs ago. You learn really quick to do most things either with left hand or left hand and teeth! Hair bobbles and bras difficult but as already mentioned do bra from front and buy a hair clip! Do let it heal properly. I didn't and was riding in plaster cast and made it wonky. Make sure it's covered if you are down the yard. I can confirm that stable smells do not come out of plaster casts!
