Satisfactory dressage test.

12 faults (2 run outs and rolled 1 pole off) in SJ, but that was as big as we had ever jumped and we had never jumped indoors before.

He was a total idiot on the XC. 5 run outs, most at very easy fences. It was nothing to do with the fences, but was due to him tanking, not listening to checks (had to check him hard 6 times to make a turn through a narrow hedge gap), charging at a fence, then realising at the last moment that he was too fast/flat and ducking out left. Circling him brought him back to me and we would then easily pop the fence 2nd attempt. The fences were no bigger and less technical than we do at home and last weekend at Trowell, so its not the fences, its his behaviour.

We go through the same control issues every time we do something new. 1st canter. 1st hack. 1st dressage test. 1st SJ (took 3 mins to exit the arena after being eliminated as we were still orbiting). Pity JRMF ODE at Trowell has been cancelled as he went there last weekend so would have been better.

ohh you where there too? well done, sounds good for your first ODE- I did the intermediate and had a crap dressage, clear showjumping (pleased with that as there were lots of faults), and a stupid nappy stop at number 2 on the xc (flew the rest though).

I was the only adult male competitor, so not hard to pick out! It was nice facilities and well run. I would definitely go again.

The only gripe would be control of the course in the woods. The woman who parked next to me and who was a few numbers up from me almost ran in to some people walking their dog on a long extendable lead in the woods. She had to pull up to avoid them!

Well done on getting round - you certainly did better than me today! Was attempting an ODE after a VERY long period of not jumping (me not the horse) and was eliminated in the SJ. When is your next outing?

Hunter Trial at home on 7th October. Not sure whether I can find anything before then ODE-wise. Will look this evening. Open to suggestions!

Well done on surviving your first ODE

any pictures yet?

He looks quite good over this palisade. Pity he didn't do the same the 1st time at it, instead of running out and almost flattening the photographer!

oops re the photographer, at least he didn't take offence and still snapped you going over it

did you have your shades on again?
Can't do the next HT at Eland Lodge as it clashes with our local show

but hopefully going to have a play the weekend before if we can book in?

My view is that if you stand in the vicinity of a XC fence, you cannot complain if you get run over.

I did without them as there was a long canter through some woods.

Not a chance! The week before the HT is the SEIB/BHS National HT final.

Great pic! Never mind the XC run outs, at least he jumped them 2nd time. Must have just been exciting for him! - first event so just being tacked up & ridden 3 times in a day must be a bit of a shock for them (least it was for my lad a week ago!)

I have done dressage and SJ on the same day with him, and dressage followed by XC schooling.

The ODE was a lot less stressful for me than a riding club show though as everything runs to time. I relaxed by the lorry reading and drinking after dressage with Charlie tied up next to me munching grass because I knew that at 1420 I need to tack him up. None of this "the previous class is running 40ish minutes late, so we might start at... and you might go in at... because we have no idea how many entrants there will be."

I never have anyone helping me at a show, and this was the 1st time ever that I was able to relax and enjoy it.
