In fact Boo was fantastic. You wouldn't think it was 2 years since he last did cross country, although you probably couldn't say the same for me!
He was jumping his socks off and quite happily flying over ditches, off banks and through the water. We had 2 silly stops with I thought were mainly rider error, but my instructor said were entirely rider error! He took a dislike to a jump painted like a house - I had fair warning, he'd been snorting at it every time we went near as he didn't like the red roof. But as it was small and he's jumped house shaped jumps before I didn't get after him as much as I should and he ran out - I'm only taking part of the blame for that one
The other was quite a big fence (for me) and I didn't give him a very good line, then sat there like a lemon worrying about how big it was. He was getting a bit tired by then too which didn't help, but he did jump it perfectly a couple of times after that.
I was amazed how calm I felt about it - not the nervous wreck I usually turn into. I was even choosing to jump the bigger options. Ok, nothing was over 3', but it has been 2 years!
I've entered a hunter trial next weekend - now I can't wait.
Very pointless and self indulgent - sorry - but I'm a bit excited! Well done if you've made it this far.
