Vet advised to treat horse as suspect lami - he is footy n lame in trot on hard surfaces. So he is in 24/7 for 2 weeks on really strict diet weighed/soaked hay. Couple of q's -he is eating his straw beddin whats the sugar levels like in straw will this b a problem? Also should I walk him in school to stretch his legs during the box rest or just leave him for 3 wks? Thanks

I would suggest checking out the Laminitis Trust's website for detailed information. They usually suggest a very deep shavings bed which covers the entire floor of the stable (18inches deep and wall to wall, including door area) and NO handwalking out of the stable at all. They basically need to completely stay put. The sugar level wouldn't be too high in the straw bed, but the shavings bed is better support.
