No - not Tilly thank god!!

Someone I know thinks her 2 yr old has pulled a tendon. Says he is hopping on it and that it feels thick and pulled like a pulled muscle.

She isn't cold hosing despite advice to, won't get the vet up and has popped on a non elasticated stable bandage which is then got a bandaged layed of duct tape over it and left him in his feild with 4 others in the hope it will get better on its own

When I asked about it and tried to suggest vet/cold hosing etc she replied that it was probably just a pulled muscle and he'd be fine - wtf!! There are NO MUSCLES in the horses lower leg!!!

Not to sure what to do - this isn't my only concern either

tbh hun, sounds like you cant do anything. if this person wont take your advice then there realy is nothing you can do, short of caling the vet out yourself. However this wouldnt go down to well with the owner im guessing!

Have you tried explaining how serious it could be? how about showing her a diagram of the horses leg and how its put together? to prove to her there are no muscles in the leg!!

Slap her hard by the sounds of it. Is she purposely trying to get a horse that won't be much use to her or anyone else unless it gets some treatment?

Maybe show her an article on Tendonitis and the long term effects of not correctly treating a tendon injury?

Sorry hun, these things are awful to watch, but as PG said, if she won't accept your help you do have to switch off

Thanks for the suggestions, did point out the risks of not treating it (which is what prompted the "pulled muscle" comment)! But maybe I need to actually present her with some articles or something to read - she might listen to someone else!

When Till's got the tiniest bit of heat and "puffiness" and Im talking so small that only myself and my instructor could find it!! She was the first person to do the "oh thats really bad, need to get a scan asap, she'll be on box rest for months..." speal at me so I can't understand why she's being to ignorant now!

Please just reassure me though that this is NOT the way to treat anything that may be tendon/ligament related?

If it were Till's she be in, on box rest, on bute, seeing the vet and I'd be paying someone to cold hose her 3 times a day while Im at uni!!

Christ ! The horse needs to be on box rest at least until the swelling has gone ! Cold hosing 2 or 3 times a day, and probably a stable bandage on the leg too

Definatley not the right way to treat it! If it were mine they would be on box rest, bandaged, buted, vet checked and cold hosed! Some peoples way of thinking is unbelievable!

Perhaps you need to tell her my horror story.
My mare was lame, had vet out who referred to equine vet, everyone thought it was pulled tendon and we treated as such for 2 weeks.Equine vet came again-now the 4th vet to have seen her and he took a sample of tendon sheath fluid.
Next thing I know he is on the pnone saying that for her to have any chance at all she has to go to vet hospital ASAP as she has serious tendon sheath infection. There was no wound anywhere to be seen and vets have no idea how she got it,although one thought is a blood borne infection from lyme disease.
We are still not sure if she will survive and if she does she will be perminently lame.
It has been an awful experience for all involved and I would not like to think of another horse going through that

Oh god - how horrible for you!! Thank god you had the sense to seek help, really hope she recovers!

Will also pass it on - maybe she might get the vet out if I can worry her enough?

If the horse is badly lame and in a field, and the owner really wont listen to sense, maybe a call to a animal rescue type body might be in order!!
