Suspected Shoe Boil - Anyone experienced this?

My big TB has always had a scabby patch on the inside of his near fore, right at the top by his elbow. I've tried to keep this clean but have just left it over the 8 months I've had him and it's stayed much the same. Recently, it's developed a fairly large lump in the middle - it's not a sarcoid but is smooth, quite hard and noticeable in size. Doesn't bother the horse at all but I've been doing some research and it sounds like it could be a shoe boil. He is stabled at night on quite deep shavings and does lie down a lot.

Does this sound like a shoe boil? I've seen some large, donut boots that can be put on but I'm not sure where to find there and they also look huge so not sure how horses feel about them.

Any information / tips would be great as this is a new issue for me and I don't want it to escalate.

You used to be able to get a thick padded sausage boots for prevent this .
You can also tie some thick neoprene overreach boots .

Yes I've seen these but they look like the horse might find it uncomfortable/strange to wear. Have you ever used these?

I haven't as my pony has no shoes. I've seen them used in the past when a horse was injured though.
