Suspensory desmitis

Yes, my 23 y.o. TB, now retired I suspect has DSLD or as it is now called ESPA. Equine Systemic Protoglycan Accumulation
check out this web site http://dsldequine.info/
I have made a list of all the signs leading to my conclusion, I have an A4 sheet full of them now. pm me if you want to compare notes.
I got most of my info from the Yahoo group DSLD/ESPA. You can join the group and if you decide to register on the trial, there is a herbal treatment which has greatly helped lots of the horses on that group. All you have to do is buy the herbs, which are not too expensive, about £22 for a couple of months supply and then record your observations of any improvements on a regular (monthly at first) basis.

Whoa!! Hang on a moment! If the OP looks at that link they will be baffled and confused, as I was!!! My horse has proximal suspensory desmitis - and if this link has any connection to this - I fail to see how herbs etc will make the lesions in the ligaments to heal!! I hate to be negative but I think that what you are proposing is a rip off and scam!!

Having said that - OP - what exactly is your horse's injury? If it's PSD then yes - I've got rather a lot of recent experience! You can look at my previous posts - or PM me.

I can vouch for the fact that it isn't a scam or a rip off. My horse couldn't lift his back legs off the ground at one point and once on the herbs, over a period of a few weeks, he improved dramatically. I'm not saying he was cured and never suggested that it is a cure, I said they were helped a great deal.
If it is DSLD, it is progressive and incurable. My horse is 23 now so he is living in relatively comfortable retirement despite the disease.
Until you have researched the web site and joined the group and learnt all that I have in the last two years, by then I think you will be qualified to judge whether it is a scam and a rip off!
Sorry you were confused, that comes with just taking a quick look and not taking time to understand it properly. Don't be so quick to diss something you know nothing about.

It is not a rip off and the site given and yahoo DSLD group are probably about the best for people with DSLD horses. (I have had 2 such horses) There is a wealth of information, photos and means of diagnosis along with support as to the best way to maintain and manage horses.

The "rip off and scam" that you describe is based on the work of Dr Eleanor Kellon who posts regularly on that group helping people as they try and work their way through suspensory problems.
Dr Kellon is a well respected nutritionalist and vet. DSLD is a lot more common in the US. The herbs are not purchased through Dr K so there is no "scam or rip off".
The herbs work on some horses and some are just too far gone before starting on that regime.
A lot of people with DSLD horses are indebted to the advice (and we are talking vet advice here) and help and support from that group.

I agree with muff. When you know all the information that is available on that site and group you will be in a position to declare it "a scam and rip off".

sorry to hear about your horse, Muff. What breed?

I don't necessarily think it is more common in the US, it's just they are more aware of it and their vets are more informed about how to diagnose it. And of course the Paso Fino pedigrees are blighted with it. I have seen horses at yards around where I live with dropping fetlocks but the owners just think they are being lazy and one gelding I knew used to "sit" on a ledge in his stable but I hadn't discovered D/E then, I just knew he had the same strange habit of sitting or leaning his bottom on the wall.
