Hi, I have posted before and am now 4 months down the line of bringing my gelding back into work after 10 months rest after fasciotomy and neurectomy on both hind legs. We are up to 50 mins walk with approx 3 short trots. Anything after 50 mins he starts to feel and walks like a banana. If we give him his head totally, so nose to the floor he recovers again. (Will he ever get better?)He is on No Bute does anyone think this works? Also does anyone have any thoughts that magnetic boots or rug might help (I say rug because he had shock treatment on his back originally which really helped, even though his back is fine, and the shock treatment on his legs didnt work) and if so which ones. Or should I put him on a painkiller? Thanks

Hi, a pony who is on livery with us has a ligament problem and has been on 3 months box rest, the vet has discussd a possible operation with his owner as part of his treatment but the vet has suggested that he may need to be ridden mildly after the op with the addition of a painkiller.
I have mentioned the no bute premium to his owner as it seems to be more effective than the no-bute. If you are using the no bute but not the premium i would give it a go.
I use magentic boots on a hunter of ours who has arthritic changes in her hocks-she is completely sound but i can't say that it is due to the boots because we started using the boots at the same time as cortaflex and having a cortisone injection. She had the injection approx 5 months ago so it may be wearing off.
Magnetic therapy is familiarly known to be beneficial for damaged ligaments and other problems but for me i feel better knowing i am using them on our mare and that i am doing all i can to offer/promote some healing.
Maybe they are worth a try.

Sorry i am not offering a very technical response-we are on a learning curve at the moment ourselves with this pony.

Best of luck.
