Evening All.
Just shipped all my tack home from my lovely little livery yard in NE Fife, following advice from the police. (The house smells wonderful!)

Pair of dodgy characters appeared earlier today, one on crutches and apparently drunk (!!), claiming to be there to try and sell bodyprotectors, which we reckon was just their excuse for poking about the yard. They got a very cool reception and left, while one of the girls took their number plate, and called the police. Turns out they are already familiar with this pair: they're very dodgy, though this is a new location for them. So we're all resigned to carrying our tack around a lot for a wee while.

I've heard there were a couple of yards hit north of Dundee recently, and more or less cleaned out. Well, they'll not get their greasy mitts on my GFS!
It's horrible: we're a really close, friendly wee yard, and we all look out for each other, so are all quite cross at the thought of now having to batten down the hatches just because there are slimy thieves around.

Grrr....

Horrible feeling thinking you have to keep everything with you isnt it?! But atleast you have done it before all the stress of it going missing.

Yes, it makes you wonder about the human race. Just heard this morning that in a town a few miles away, someone set fire to a shed at a playgroup, and not only burnt all the toys, but the animals died too...

2 chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs etc......

What is wrong with people, that they have to cause sO much misery? Is it some sort of 'getting high' thing....?

That's so sick: the kids will be so upset, to say nothing of the terror and pain the poor animals went through. Just awful. I find it hard to accept that there's any actual 'worth' in people like that. I hope the misery they've caused others catches up with them, and they get what they deserve.

I find it's basically impossible to "really" enjoy anything nowadays without having to second guess what some peice/s of crraap will do.

Where to park the car, have I left anything on show, will it get damaged by
anyone or a careless parker.
Buy a car, million checks for ringing outstanding HP, written off repaired ect.

Where to park trailer, will it be safe while riding.

Is the house locked, are xmas presents in sight of anyone outside, where to put the wrappers with the bin so no one sees's what you got in case they want to steal it later.

Cold callers, who are they, are they really Seven Trent ??

On the phone, be careful of everything you say in case they get card details ect.....

Ride horse or take dog a walk, fly tipping, lager cans vandalism, illegal parking, is there broken glass in the grass.

Go to the garage, extremely volatile petrol at the pumps, ******* roles up in their car with a fag on and phone stuck at their ear, dont leave keys in the car while you pay, look carefully for speeding cars cutting through forecourt, dont let anyone see your pin number while paying, dont let card out of your sight, particularly at BP garage, get cash form machine, is anyone dodgy hanging around.

Anyone want to add to this list as my fingers are getting tired.........

Pedantic, you are quite right, I actually moved from Home Counties to NE Scotland and live a mile from the nearest road to have peace and quiet from cr*p like that.

Have found it tho.... Dont have to lock the house or the car. Dont have to pay for a ticket to park in local wee town. Do like and trust all my neighbours. Can hack out direct from the house and not a bit of fly tipping in sight.

On the downside I no longer have my v well paid city job and only see OH at weekends, and get snowed in for months, but the peace of mind is priceless to me.
