Am due to move to a place just outside Helmsdale next month and any points of interest/history etc would be great.

I was born and grew up in Caithness but left aged 18 for education and work - not been back up that way now since 2011 - so not able to help much I'm afriad, but VERY envious and hope it all goes well for you!

I'm up in Caithness, twiggy. About 50 minutes from Helmsdale but an area with a very different character. Helmsdale is still in the Highlands, Caithness is back to flatlands!

Look up the Caithness Broch Project if you like history. ? It's all very isolated and a good long way from anywhere up here. I love it and I'm actually in one of the more populous bits but it's still quiet! Where are you coming up from?

Coming from just outside Inverness, the East side of Loch Ness is about 4 miles away.

I've not really stopped in Helmsdale and given how close you are you probably know as much as I do about it! It's a lovely part of the world though. Quiet!

It's looks beautifully void of neighbours where we are heading, we know nothing of the area having driven through Helmsdale once without stopping ?
