A friend of mine has contacted me this morning to say that there have been 6 horses put down with suspected swamp fever recently in west cornwall.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I have looked on the defra website, and there is nothing there. I would have though if it was suspected or actual swamp fever, then it would be on there, as they have to announce it as it is a notifiable disease?

Any info would be great thx

I have not heard anything about this either as yet...will keep eyes peeled...Defra may not have confirmation of EIA as yet, especially as it is a weekend.
I would strongly suggested all speculation is kept to the minimum until we can request clarification from DEFRA on monday morning.

it was on the 10 oclock news last week that swap fever is back in the uk. horse coming from romania are suspected to have brought it over. i will try and find a link to the story.

Another good website is www.roseveanvets.co.uk - they have a 'simple English' factsheet. I've trawled the internet for info as I am at a yard in St Erth where one pony has died from EAM (Equine Atypical Myopathy) and this factsheet pretty much summarises all info out there. Am desperately hoping we won't see any more cases.
