swamp fever

Hi guys, - been reading a lot about this mlately but am still really clueless. Is it in England yet? What are the symptoms and can you get a vaccine? Just a bit worried as it sounds scary. Thought I'd asked the clued up peeps!!

To my knowledge there are no cases in England, only in Ireland.

I am afraid there is no vaccine against this. the case in the UK was in Northern Ireland - so no cases in UK yet - though a number of horses who are considered high risk have been isolated. The horse in NI was not related to the other cases.

Was brought to Ireland by unscreened serum that was imported from Italy. there have also been 10 (I think) horses PTS in Germany. It is thought that it may have been caused by same serum.

Normally carried by insects.
