I love that so many people are saying what all dog lovers know is true(but aparently powers that ne dont) punish deed not breed.
Any dog can be a danger in the wrong hands-should we stop people having dogs full stop?
Would baning certain breeds in council houses do anything anyway?
Neighbour who has taken up their "right to buy" can have whatever dog they want, "you" cant becuse you still rent? Crazy.

I've said this before and it wasn't popular, however I don't care to be popular

.

I think the "owners" of houses, whether they be CC owned or privately owned, have the right to say whom or what they want in their houses. If they don't want certain breeds of dogs in their houses then that is their prerogative. The way the Law is going.....it will be the Council (or house owners) who will be being sued for allowing these sorts of dogs to live in over populated areas.

I agree with banning certain animals in CC housing.

Some animals yes, but some breeds of dog?
IF they were as dangerous as the media makes them sound then bann them alltogether, the dog is not more of a problem because it is owned by someone renting a council house!

If I remember rightly the Dublin dan also stopped them going into parks too so how on earth is that goign to be managed?
If you own the house you can have whatever breed you want while next door nieghbour who still rents can only have something the media thinks is cute and fuffy but you cant take it for a walk in local park?

Sorry.....but I agree with Tia.....it is up to the owner/council what they allow in their houses.....bring on the ban I say (hides) to miss the onslaught) behind tia

I also think that the banning of pitbulls/fighting breeds need to be enforced...Im not into the ban the deed not the breed....cos they will never hold the a*seholes that abuse and fight these animals to the death and keep them as beefed up steroid enhanced fighting machines...therefor ban the breed to stop humans rom abusing them in such a horrendous manor
mad.gif

And yes....I know that people will jump on me and say....but I have this and is soft as muck.....if it is a fighting type breed it is capable of so much more damage than other non fighting breeds....they fight to the death...not just to maim.
I own a Japanese Akita....I did not choose this dog...I rescued her...., to stop her ending up in the wrong hands..I would happily see the breed banned if it meant that A*rseholes could not get their hands on them....I am willing to sacrafice never owning the breed again...even though I adore them...to stop them ending up in the wrong hands.
However thats just my opinion...rant over

Why on earth would people risk buying a banne breed...this also erks me....then screan blue murder/cruelty when hey are re-called to be destroyed....dont blase the enforcement....blame yourself for buying a know banned breed.....again sorry for the rant....I have some rather strong opinions on the matter

Banning the breed alltogether I would agree with, well, not agree with but understand.
A bann on them ONLY in housing rented from a certain sourse I dont agree with.
It assumes that people in a council house are going to be bad owners who will create problem dogs, that simply is NOT true.
Bad owners come from all walks of life and all sorts of different incomes.
Having enough money to buy a house does not mean you would own a safe dog.

So,once again, HOW does banning them in council houses help?

No no....what I mean is the council have everyright to ban a breed from their own housing....as like Tia said...they will be the ones held responsible if the dog attacks.
I dont mean ban breeds from council tennants...I mean ban altogether.....but at the same time the council have the rights over their houses.........but saying that...its a pity the council dont enforce some of the more filthy/scummy council tennants to clean their gardens/houses

seems they just enforce what they like

I think you are misinterpreting what I'm saying. I am not saying that any owner is better than any other - what I'm saying is that the owner of the houses has a right to say what sort of people live there and what sort of animals are allowed.

What if this was a non-smoking ban in all CC housing? Would that be wrong or right? Private landlords are allowed to specify whether to have pets or smokers and I think that the CC, as public landlords, should have the same rights.

I guess it's a tough one but I agree with what Tia and Cala are saying to a degree, CC tenants seem to have much more freedom than private tenants at the mo, you'd be lucky to find a private house to rent that would let you have any breed of dog around us.

Yes of course they should and do- look at any tenacy agrement it states what is/is not allowed in the property and when you sign you agree to abide by those rules.

Thing is, this ban is being put forward because these breeds are, aparently, dangerous.
So why ONLY ban them in council housing?
IF the breeds are dangerous they are dangerous whoever owns then.
If they are only banned from ONE type of housing how does it have an impact on the numbers of people attacked by them?

Surely if they are dangerous enough to need banning the only sensable thing is to bann them from an area/county/country period?

I rent, and I cant have a dog here.
I knew that when I moved in and thats fine.If dogs were banned from council houses that would also be fine, I just wouldnt look at renting one.But banning one type of dog and not another is madness.
