Swapping horsebox body, anyone had it done?

My old (new to me) horsebox is having a body repair as one of the panels is rotten. I spoke to the man doing it tonight and he said its a really good build and that it would be worth considering swapping the body onto a newer probably 02 chassis in a year or so. For what I paid for it, this could be worth it.
I mentioned this to my mechanic when he checked it over and he said for it to to fit I could go no later than a V or x reg (I think) because of the shape. Man fixing the body work said this isnt a problem and it can be altered to fit, so I dont know what to believe.

Has anyone swapped a body? Is there a lot of work involved and does it cost a lot. Mine has a tilt cab facility by means of a flap opening at the front of the luton.
Also how much do Iveco chassis (I presume it needs to be an Iveco???) cost arround 02 that are half decent?

We did. Can't remember cost but a good quality Ford Iveco flat-bed for horse-box came onto the market. Our old lorry would not pass plate test.

A farmer who was a qualified welder did the job. He took the container off the old lorry and put it on the new. The old lorry had parts much in demand in India and went for scrap.

We lived in Perthshire at the time.
 
Thanks. Was your old horsebox an Iveco too and can you remember the years of both. Its just with the mechanic saying I cant go quite new and the bloke doing the repairs saying I can. Did yours have a luton?
 
I swapped in Dec took it off my old renault commando and put on Daf 45 was a little alteration to be made cost £900 for transfer
 
Thanks for replying. Its good to hear you dont need to stick with the same make as Id love a DAF too if poss. Did your Renault have skirts and a luton. I just cant imagine how its done as mine has lockers in the skirts as well. Its all a bit 'in the future' yet but if I can afford it, I wouldnt mind getting it done sooner and arround £900 plus the chassis seems do able. How new did you go?
 
Thanks for replying. Im sure this man knows what hes doing but before I do go ahead I will make sure I find out a bit more.
