Swapping horsebox to newer chassis

Always wondered how this is done and always felt to stupid to ask :o
I always thought that coachbuilts were built from scratch and the body couldnt be swapped to a newer chassis?? I have a conversion but cant imagine how they could take the box off and put it on a newer chassis. It had a new floor put in when it was built, isnt it permanently attached to the chassis???
Sorry for the daft question, just always wondered :confused::confused:
 
In essence ,every Horse box can be divided into three areas Cab, chassis and body. There is sometimes a small degree of overlap betwean the three. I am sure you can visualise how easy it is to swap a body which is completely separate from the cab, but actually even on the poshest boxes it is only sheetmetal work joining them. Drill out the rivets, separate the pannels . A bit of crane work ,a lot of carefull measuring and hey presto!It would shock an amaze you to see an airliner being repaired.(my other job).

It's (the body) bolted on to the chassis if you look there are rails that sit on the top of the chassis then bearers from side to side supporting the floor the dificult bit to sort out can be where the cab meets the body/ luton because of different shape or hight cabs..
 
Ahhh, easy to visualise when explained, thank you.
I suppose its finding someone who can do it thats the problem otherwise probably a much cheaper way to have a newer wagon if you have a good horsebox body.
And enough about planes, I hate flying so the less I know the better lol :eek::eek:
