Has anyone done this? A straight swap or part exchange? Are there any websites specifically tailored to swapping as apposed to selling? South of England.

Got a nice allrounder 14.2hh that I just dont gel with! I want something a bit bigger, perhaps a bit more quirky. Prefer a mare. Surely there must be plenty of people out there who are in the same position? Want something smaller/bigger, quieter/more lively etc but just cant be dealing with the barter of buying and selling!?

I swapped a horse last year - straight swap and it was totally for the best.

I also know of studs swapping with eachother to get new breeding lines into the stud!

Yep :) Did a straight swap start of 2010 and it was terrible.
Nature is a biatch. The horse was barely handled (though backed ) riddled with mites and died of colic 4 days later.
Oh the joy  drove almost 100miles to swap the love of my life for that horse.
As you can imagine, I was gutted.

I really wish there was a forum or website for horses for swap, tempting. I have a lot of time on my hands and some basic experience in web designs :D thoughts, thoughts, thoughts...

did it with my 4x4 and trailer. I swapped for a lorry :D even did the deed on a motorway service station. (6 years ago) I still got my lorry

I would just advertise your horse and put exchange considered for

there was this
http://www.horseswap.co.uk/

but it obviously didn't work... having read some of the adverts, I can see why - the average ad seemed to along the lines of...

offered: young/unbroken/old/lame/broodmare ie something of limited value
wanted: perfect easy made schoolmaster ie very saleable

I thinlk the idea is brilliant but it might be very hard to accurately value the swops??

I just think half the time, when people are selling its because something isnt quite right and they want a different type of horse or pony but in the current market its sooo hard to sell what you already have before you can buy what you want. It would be so much easier to just do straight swaps!

i would gladly swop my horse as i havnt been able to sell him and we dont gell either, hes dented my confidence so i dont ride him so he sits in the field, have even considered euthanising as its not fair on him not doing anything

what are you selling/swopping? i want something smaller, mines 16/16.1, something quieter, mines a tb whos 4 and green, and something to boost my confidence as i just dont have the time or facilities to bring him on, hes going to make a nice horse though, just needs some work!

I remember at Pony Club many years ago that two friends did a swap. They both had ponies which went far better for the other, so they swapped.

No money changed hands they just exchanged the ponies and that was that. Everyone was happy and that was that. This was in the prehistoric age before passports and all that.

Both ponies lived to ripe old ages after doing brilliantly in pony club.

if two people are in the same position whereas they are having trouble selling theirs and dont gell with them then why not? does someone want to do a swop with me?! people can still have them vetted, tried out etc so why not?

I considered it for my 14hh pony Rosie - she headshakes without a supplement, so not easy to sell, despite being perfect in pretty much every other way. I think you'd have to sell the pony to the other person for £1 then buy yours for £1 to make it more legal with less possible comeback.

so is anyone out there in the same situation as me and wants to consider it? the more we get into winter the harder it will be to sell anyway, and my poor boy is seriously bored and in need of a new home, or i would drop his sale price by quite a bit if it means he can have a nice home with someone whos going to ride him! am open to options!

Bit of a poor comment IMO.

A later one says you'd drop his price 'a bit' to get him gone, yet you talk of having him put to sleep which will cost you money? Horses, even quirky ones, are selling. They just have to be fair prices. Horses, especially young ones, don't really mind doing nothing. Please pm me details and i'll do my best to find him a home, he may suit me if he's tb.

ginger76 - have you actually tried to sell your horse, as euthanasia seems a bit extreme just because you don't suit each other!?

If you don't want to ride it could you afford to put it on sales livery, or try advertising on the project horses website?
