Sweating in field - clipping

My little hairy mini cob is usually clipped all year, but for the first time in years, I've let his winter coat grow (no reason other than I've been busy so he hasn't been ridden recently).

He's been sweating just in the field , even some nights at bedtime. (He lives out). It has been incredibly mild and his coat is really dense. Anyway, he's being clipped this evening and I'm wondering whether to rug. Usually, I don't have this dilemma as he's already clipped at this point and used to it, so I just tend to put a lightweight on him when I feel it's getting a bit cooler. Will it be too much of a shock for him to.go naked or will he feel relieved and more comfortable??!

How are you clpping him? Full clip needs rug, tummy only no

Anything more than a high blanket I wouldn’t rug a hot horse unless riding to keep them clean.

Faran gets three full clips a year, I try to keep him in work all winter and he sweats as soon as the tack goes on. Also I find it easier to manage with him having had Lami in winter that one time due to the hard ground. Helps me keep him from getting to chunky without having to restrict him all winter .

I used to do a low chaser/Irish type, taking off most of the neck, on my hot retired NF every year and never rugged him.

mine is wearing a 50g when turned out atm, nothing in the stable. just to keep the rain off, but she is especially soft

He gets a full clip with legs left on. I've just been out to get him in and it's slightly breezy, so think I might put a 50g on him. It feels a bit cooler than the last few days have and definitely don't want him to get a shock once all that fluff is off. He's just been so hot I was concerned about overheating him!

Yes. (Although haven't for the last few weeks due to busy time at work, hence the wooly coat being left to grow.)

If I clip my shetland type which i have done a few times over winter I don't rug unless its absolutely vile. He has a neck/belly if he is sweaty doing nothing, just to keep him more comfortable. If i rugged he'd sweat still.
If I was riding I'd probably take a lot off and rug just for easiness and horse comfort.
