I am loving this milder weather but my poor lad is still in his winter woolies and yesterday came out of the field a very sweaty betty. My yard looks like it is carpeted in ginger fluff as he is moulting like crazy. I'm almost temped to clip his chest and underside of his neck to help...we only hack, it doesn't matter if he has dodgy clip lines!
 
I am in exactly the same position. Went for gentle walk today and my boy was a sopping wet. So much hair has come out but you wouldn't know it to look at him. To make matters worse both of my labradors are in full moult. Hair wherever I go and my clothes are a mess.

You could do a high irish clip, from the point where the belly joins the back leg diagonally to the wither, taking the neck off.

I clipped my horse in late December and he's only this week showing signs of summer coat coming through, I only do half his head and thats moulting like crazy

I don't think it would halm to do it now
 
Ours mainly hacks and schools twice a week and we clipped him as he was getting so hot, even just hacking. He just has a tracer (?) clip with the underside of neck and his belly. Just needed a warmer rug when its really cold!
 
I'd be inclined to clip him. If he's sweating in the field on mild days, he'll probably get fairly sweaty out hacking too. When they are quite hairy, it takes ages to dry them off after, so more likely to catch a chill, and the sweat means more salts lost from the body which affects condition.
My hairy boy gets clipped all year round, bless his hairy socks.
