Sorry this could get long......Anyone else finding that this mild weather is making there horses sweat? My ID gelding is roughed off due to injury and is randomly sweating

- ie. unrugged in the stable at night, and even some dampness when brought in in the evening. There are loads of details I could go into, but the upshot is I am interested to see if anyone elses horses with Yak style hair are struggling with the sauna like temperatures.

Yep. My ID has hardly had a rug on at night this winter.

The temp is about 8 degrees higher than it should be at night and even my old cob has managed to go through winter in only one night rug.

My clydie is blanket clipped - but with all his bum left on and my gypsy cob has the same.

Apart from a few days, they have still been in their summer turnouts and either a fleece or lw rug at night. Been only about a week when they had on a MW rug and a fleece and their MW turnouts.

Anything more and they sweat up.

Am clipping this weekend and am going to take off more coat as even in light work they are sweating up.

Knowing my luck a hard cold winter will arrive the minute I clip them out.

Hi, Yep, my two un-clipped hairy yaks are finding it a tad warm too. Lightweight rugs for turnout and no rugs when stabled at night and they are still having the odd sweaty night!

This is cheering me up loads thanks - was worrying that on top of countless problems the poor great lump already has that he may be in pain on a day to day basis.

Am now thinking more along lines of applying clippers to some of the excess hair and then I can hopefully get away with a l/w rug.

Sounds daft doesn't it, clipping so that you can rug!! But honest I'm not going mad, hes on a really exposed field and gets v. grumpy if he gets too cold and wet - grumpy ID trying to share his pain by taking lumps out is just not my idea of fun!!!

No...! I have a hairy welsh yak who likes to be warm and toasty! He would have an electric blanket on if he could! He has a light weight rug on in his stable at night but seems just right in it and a medium turnout and fine in that. He does like to be cosy though...and he is not clipped!

My unclipped TB is in two rugs both quite thic and he is finding it nice and toasty warm not too sweaty but the wind has been bad recentley so that prob whay he is in a bit of a wind trap unfortunatley
