I’ve been joking for ages that we never try and get the massive pothole outside the house repaired because it slows cars down and keeps the road a bit safer….

Today they fixed the pothole and little Ava cat has been hit and killed 🥲

My daughter commented on how fast a car shot past and just after Mr P saw her literally fall off the wall into the yard. She was gone by the time I got to her.

Mr P is gutted. He found her in a field about 18 months ago, a little feral kitten, trapped and appeared at home with her. After trying to find an owner and got her scanned etc.
No one claimed her so she stayed, he managed to get her confidence and she became family. She was Bertie dogs best friend.
RIP little Avie

Oh that’s terrible, what a shock for you all, im so sorry 😢
RIP little one.
It sounds like she had the best life with you, despite it being cut short. We collect cats in much the same way. Similar to you one suffered on a rural road by a mad fast driver. Terrible shame.
Hugs xx

Oh no! I’m so sorry.

I must be one of the only ones on our lane that doesn’t complain about the pot holes (although they are getting ridiculous!) because they do slow people down. Seven cars have blown tyres this week, some of them front and back, but it’s curious that it’s also the people that drive at full pelt.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your lovely cat. She's now in Cat Heaven and being taught naughty cat tricks by Zeus The Bad Burmese and all the ones who followed him.

Thank you all. I'm surprised how sad i feel about it. The past months she had started meeting me at the kitchen door when i got up and having a bit of a fuss and breakfast.
I suppose the only good thing is that it was so fast. As i approached her i was telling Mr P go find the cat cage and car keys to get her to the vet. I'm glad she didn't have to go through that as she was still very nervous around other people. I'm also glad she got home, there's nothing worse than not knowing.
I'm now really worried about Arlo, he's the one that is back and fore across the road all the time. He loves being out in the fields and garden though. There's no way he would become a complete house cat. They both got shut in over night to minimise risks and he is happy with that but desperate to go out first thing.

RIP little Ava, if I ever had a cat I wouldn’t let it roam and would cat proof my garden do it could still have outside time, could you do something like that for your remaining cat ? Someone on here built a catio and showed photos, that might be good

So sorry, RIP Ava. We worry about one of our neighbours (who owns a cat) as he drives down our short cul-de-sac at speed and our cat is old and quite deaf and wombles around outside. But he’d hate to be confined. We’ve tried it. The only time pot holes are useful.

I won't have another. I think had he been kept in since a baby then yes but he'd literally go stir crazy and be unbearable. He once went missing for months and we tried to keep him in after that. He was utterly miserable. he is a full on farm cat. Spends all day mousing the grain stores and hedges, he's also very active and comes walking with me and the dogs when we are staying off road. His brain wouldn't cope, no amount of stimulation could fake his current life unfortunately.
I'm not against the house cat idea, He's just not one of them.
