Quick question - I've just replied to a post about shoes on a laminitic! I took my mare's shoes off, as it helps her to feel her feet, and also shoes restrict the feet somewhat, especially for laminitic horses/ponies, does anyone else think this is right/wrong??
The coblet is unshod - the one thing I was concerned about after her lami was that she may have to have shoes - the only time she was shod (about 3 months one winter) she went through a pair of front shoes in about 3/4 weeks!! Luckily she is still fine without and didn't need shoes at all - still has feet like concrete!!
I thought unless they were using heart bar for frog support they were better off unshod while recovering as they need more regular farrier attention to keep the toes short etc
Having said all of that I have had a couple of glasses of wine and haven't looked at the other thread............
I agree, I thought they were better off without, unless of course, it was really bad and they needed heart bars etc!
Luckily, like yours, my mare does really well without, and it is easier to judge how she is without the shoes masking it, if you see what I mean, I can watch for very slight wobbles and avoid her getting it ( I know she'll always have it )
Hi all, just in from PC club - new ponio was a star - have spoken to the mum - muzzle purchased, strip grazing sorted and I am going over on Saturday to work with them with the pony so fingers crossed it was just a little blip!
