Are they meant to rust?

I rinsed my new one with warm water and cleaned it after it had been used and the next day it was, in between all the links, a bit rusted!

I have heard somethng about those bits rusting....so, are they meant to?

Thanks

Yes, I think they are. Apparently that's what makes them nice.

Yep

Thats the whole point of them - mylers also oxidise and turn brown if they haven't been used for a while.

My tips is a scouring pad, or for a thick layer steel wool if you want to clean it up.

The rust is the flavour the horses like - so you just need to make the surface smooth.

Found this on mylers if you are interested:

All Myler Bits are handmade in the U.S.A. The mouthpiece is made of sweet iron with copper inlay for increased salivation for the horse. Sweet iron will rust and is porous and maintains a somewhat sweet taste in the horses mouth. Please do not try to clean the mouthpiece with any kind of chemical since it will change the “sweetness” of that iron into the taste of whatever cleaning agent you have used. If necessary, you can rinse any saliva off with water. The shanks are all stainless steel and will not rust. Therefore, anything the public sees, will always be shiny and presentable.

I expect most of us taste stuff like that... I've tasted PF's happy mouth (not my sort of thing!) And a lickit (quite nice actually!!) and of course all her feeds

I liked the locust beans in her show improver mix, and the flaked peas weren't too bad....
Her oats are really rather dull though!

I read they're meant to rust aswell. Not sure I'd want that in my horse mouth though, rust doesn't taste very nice!

Well, it does taste sweet, so can't be half bad!
