Perhaps someone can advise. My boy's got sweet itch, not badly, but I tend to err on the side of caution and cover up his poll area even if he's in at night coz I don't want him to get bitten.

He was clipped yesterday, and at the mo is having to wear his sweet itch hoody (full blanket size) underneath his stable rug, which is bulky & cumbersome; and I don't want him to feel all bulked up and uncomfy.

Sooooo; during the winter when the midges die down (hopefully); I'm thinking of getting him somethign which will cover his neck/poll area, but which isn't a full sweet-itch rug underneath his turn-out rug by day, and inside at night under his stable rug when he's in.

I've had a lycra hoody thing before; it lasted three days! On the last day I found him up in the field with it on and it was all over his eyes, making him totally blind, poor chappie, so I'd never want to use a lycra hoody again, ever.

I've been looking at the Snuggy Hoods website, but again they're lycra and I'd worry that the same thing would happen again (the one I had before wasn't Snuggy Hoods but the design was similar). The fleece ones look lovely but I'm afraid they'd make him too hot; he's a trad. cob and gets hot very quickly.

Anybody got any ideas? Anybody used the Snuggy Hoods lycra things? or the turnout hoody's? Had any problems with them slipping?

Any ideas welcome.

Snuggy hoods do a sweet itch hoody, worth a go? I don't have that one but I do have the turnout hoody - it is brilliant! I have had other makes that slip and cover the eyes - fortunatly my mare was totally calm but it isn't something I want to risk happening again. The turnout one from snuggy hoods has never moved an inch. The neck was a little long for her, I know you can send them back to snuggy hoods for adjustments but after the cost of buying it I was broke so I just took the neck in a little just behind the poll and all is well. They are much more £ than other makes but I do think they are worth it. Mine really gets put through its paces and is washed loads - it still looks totally brand new!
