Sweet Itch Rugs

Does anyone have an recommendations for sweet itch rugs? Carling destroyed the fly rug he had last year but to be fair, it wasn't very good anyway. I'm on a tight budget so no huge price tags please! I know the best one to use is probably the Boett, but there is no way I will be able to afford that on my budget.

My YO has a mare with really bad sweet itch, and tbh the only rug that really works well is the Boett! She has also last year tried the Fal one (was a rubbish fit and she had to send it back to be adjusted to fit a normal sized horse, despite the fact that the horse lives in other Fal rugs all the time!) and the Rambo sweet itch hoodie was quite good. I don't know how much the Rambo one is though...
 
Yeah I've heard the Rambo one is meant to be quite good, interested to hear from people who have used this one, as its right at the very very top of my price budget, so only want to go there if it's highly recommended (or in a sale!

I realise you are on a budget but I use Snuggy Hoods for my Fell (and I tried everything else!). This site sells them at less than rrp and because they come in two parts it means maybe you could spread the cost? http://www.horsingaroundsaddlery.co.uk/c...on--Snuggy.html
The thing I found with some of the mesh rugs is that they can be abrasive and she ended up losing hair etc anyway.

ETA. Nettex Stop itch is wonderful stuff too!
 
I got my youngster complete with Boett and it was destroyed in a summer. He also sweated up in it, it didn't cover nearly enough of his belly area, I found it fiddly to put on and generally I loathed it.

So I got him a Rambo sweet-itch hoody and it's been fantastic. So far it's lasted 2 full seasons with only minor damage. It has great depth, stays cool, dries really quickly and I would get another one tomorrow if I had to. Definitely worth the money.

I use them on my horse 24/7 throughtout the summer with no problems. However I do generally use another on top, because that way I can get at least 3 seasons out of them (I'm tight), plus I use a reflective rug which helps keep him cool.
 
Our WHP wears a Rambo sweetitch hoody all summer and combined w/ applying NetTex summer salve to exposed bits stays in show condition - no scratching at all!
 
My horse went through 3 sweet itch rugs the first summer I had him - I know one was a bucas, the 2nd was a Rambo prototype (they improved a lot since then), cant remember the third one.

This year I bought him a Rambo sweet itch rug - and it lasted the entire summer. Its still in perfect condition (albeit a bit mucky!!!) I would strongly recommend them.

If you phone Horseware Ireland, they will post it directly to you and should cost a bit less than buying from a different retailer.
 
I would go for a boett - my mare was the only one out in the sun last summer - her boett seemed to act as a sun screen, hers has done a year and is in perfect condition. I think there is an icelandic company who do a boett copy using similar material, my friend has one, its about £40 cheaper than the boett but seems good. I can't remember the name, it would probably come up if you did a google search for sweet itch rugs.
 
Ive got a boett on my lad whoi has absolutely horrific sweetitch. Its the only thing that even comes close to working.

He is now on the vaccine trials as well
