Has anyone's horse/pony suffered from sweet itch on the belly. My poor little pony has sweet itch on her tummy - we think from a massive swarm of bitey things last week which drove them all nuts but have since disappeared. I'm doing all the usual treatments, benzyl benzoate on the hairy bits and an emolient on the insides of her hind legs at the top where there's no hair, she's got quite a few bites but she's suffering a bit. She's suffered from sweet itch for a few years which we've always managed successfully, but we seem to have started early this year and she's never had it on her belly before.

My geldings have only suffered on their manes and tails, but my friend's mare gets bitten all along her belly, particularly around her mid line. Maybe it's a mare thing. She gets so bad she tries to scrape her belly along the ground - very strange to watch.

Can you try a boett or one of the similar types with a tummy bit? I am trying cavallese for the first time, but I keep forgetting to give it - oops!

Classic case of sweet-itch. They go legs, stomach, neck, face. Get her a boett rug and mask, as the only thing I have to worry about now is my mare's legs and I slap a lot cream on when I can get near her with it.:(:(:(:(

Thanks she has a boett but has caught me on the hop this year I'm afraid, together with the sweet itch on the belly! She's got the boett on now and she's in at night, lathered in coopers but you just feel that you're not doing enough
