I have owned two sweet itch ponies which I managed and we are up high, with good airflow through our stables. But obviously it is a faff. I have seen a young horse for sale with it, am I mad to consider it again or keep on looking?

I’d keep looking personally :(
As you know it’s pretty horrible and depending on the severity can be a really miserable existence for the horse

Don't. You'll have no idea ho bad a case it is until it's too late. I've found it also adds considerable expense to their keep.
Thank you all for being the voice of reason. He is lovely though
Ok, you're obviously interested, but be realistic, is he lovely enough for the extra work and stress, is he cheap (because of this problem), could it be managed away from its current yard that may have triggers....
I'm going against the sensible people above and would have to go and view...

Thank you all for being the voice of reason. He is lovely though

Is he a horse you couldn't otherwise afford, with price reduced because of the sweet itch?

Mine has sweet itch, although mild, and it is a faff, and I do agree it's not nice for him, but I would have another if it meant I could have a nicer horse than otherwise.

I wouldn't buy something that had very bad sweet itch though, and I would expect a reduction in price!

Thank you. Yes that's the crux of the matter I couldn't afford him with the sweet itch. He looks like a nice horse so just waiting for some more videos of him moving before going to see him.

I think, then, it's a very personal decision as to what compromises you are willing to make. For me, potentially, for the right horse, sweet itch is a compromise I would make (obviously depending on what I intended to use the horse for!)- for other people it isn't, but they might be willing to compromise on something I wouldn't consider.
